The purpose of the Society is to support the Museum by promoting it, giving it financial and practical support and assistance, and by carrying out these activities in close cooperation with the Museum management and staff. Our Society is independent of the Museum and of The Royal Logistic Corps but works in very close contact with both.
By being the primary support organisation outside of the Army for the Museum, we seek to provide that support both financially and practically by playing a supporting role in introducing or adopting ideas that enhance the reputation and programs of the Museum. We are a full partner with the Museum in promoting and helping to deliver the Museum's programs, objects, displays and special exhibitions by a variety of means including financial support, military and logistic experience, and practical volunteer effort.
We aim to continue to build our advocacy role in support of the Museum both generally and through the development of partnerships so as to ensure that the legacy of people whose story is told by the Museum is not forgotten and indeed is enhanced.
The Society comprises two groups of people, Friends and Volunteers. In essence, however, Friends support the Museum by visiting as often as they are able, by taking every opportunity to advertise and support it, and by subscribing to the Society in the knowledge that available funds are transferred by the AGM to the Museum in the form of funding for a specific project or the purchase of a specific object. Volunteers are not asked to subscribe financially, though some do, but rather make their time, knowledge and skills available to the Museum without financial reward. Check out our Volunteers page to find out more.
Some of our Friends are active contributors to the Friends and the Museum, others less so. The choice is entirely yours. If you are interested in becoming an active friend we'd like to understand your viewpoint better, so could you please consider these options.
The Friends also support the Museum’s expanding group of dedicated Volunteers. There are a good many roles available. No subscription is payable by a Museum Volunteer because while Friends contribute funding support, you already give your time and expertise. But even as an Honorary Friend you will still receive the Friends' newsletter. View our Volunteers page to see what roles may interest you.
These are held seven or eight times each year, usually at the Museum. Some are held in the evening and involve a short social 'gathering' with refreshments and a lecture with an historical theme. Presenters and topics are varied and include serving members and former members of the Armed Forces, and
well-known guest speakers. Other events, often outdoors and suitable for children and family members are in and around the Museum. A full list of all Museum events currently planned is available on the Events page.
